System Restore tab disappeared, WinUpdate Auto unselectable.
I have administrator privileges, I'm logged on as administrator.
My System Restore tab in system properties has disappeared. It's history. I've checked gpedit.msc to make sure it hasn't been turned off, and it hasn't been... Opening the System Restore app in System Tools tells me it's not able to protect my computer and that I should restart and try again, which I have. Tried other admin accounts, also can't see it in those.. Automatic Windows Update is also not selectable, this may or may not be a related issue, but I can at least see the tab.. I can't for the life of me figure out why or how it disappeared. I did an AV scan and no results.. I am stupefied. Would rather know why it's disappeared than format and reinstall. Thanks in advance for any help. OS: XP Pro Version 2002 SP 1 ALL Patches available on Windows Update have been installed. This is a problem more recent than any patch.. |

sounds to me like you have a virus.
go to www.pandasoftware.com from there, you can do a free virus check and download the removal tools. I hope this helps! |

You may have accidentally disabled the System Restore and Windows Update services. Check services.msc
