Grrrrr....LCD Monitor Issues

Alright... today i changed my res from 1024X768 to 1152X864, everything looked nice, crisp, and seemed to work. I went to go shower so i turned off my monitor w/ my pc still on. i come back, turn it on, and the monitor is going crazy, lines and color changes and the whole 9 yards on my screen. i have all the latest drivers for both my monitor and video card. why did this happen, i had to bring it back down to 1024X768 which is fine, but still curious as to why it would go haywire at a higher res thats supported. it's a viewsonic VA720.

Insane

it might have a "native" resolution. for instance, my samsungs will display lots of different resolutions, but the only one which looks decent is 1280 x 1024

It sounds like when you upped the resolution, you hit a lucky refresh rate that the monitor synched too. Sometimes, if you power of the monitor after it has synched it has trouble locking back in. Can you change back to the higher resolution, or was it a one time deal?

wow, now the problem is this... the screen stops flickering but whatever res i go to, the image starts at the middle of the screen, so basically my 'start' button is smack in the middle of the monitor, and when i press the auto image adjust it doesn't work sometimes, though sometimes it does, very weird.

I've had some problems with the auto screen adjust too but nothing as serious as you're having. Either try the auto adjust several times or adjust it manually. It'll take a while but it's better than nothing.
