Anyone like Wired magazine?
 

Not sure if this is the right forum, but I figured it would have the largest collection of people who enjoy the mag.
Just interested if you guys like the magazine and it's content/writers. I pick it up every now and then and try to not miss many issues. I've only been buying it for about two years now but I've always meant to read it. It seems almost too good to be true; great articles, notes on topics I know about and also some I'm totally ignorant to but still enjoy. Are the writers usually unbiased? I like that it goes into important depth that some magazines really fail to. Mags these days just seem to inform people of ideas but aren't marketed to the people who *really* care about how it works and why...know what I mean? ;)

i read it since the 2nd issue, and stopped a couple years ago because they stopped being so cutting and leading edge. Now I find things months before they even get close...

i also used to like the thick paper they used the first 3 years of publishing. It was a nice thick stock.

I still read it from time to time, but I don't have to read it so regularly.

I like it.

It's an interesting mix of high tech and lifestyle articles.

I sometimes find the style a little... trite I guess. I don't like the way that some of the writers seem to invent or introduce "cool" new terms or phrases, or make annoying SciFi analogies or references. But that's just some writers, and a minor quible.

Good magazine.

PS - the less trees they destroy, using thinner paper, the better; at least as far as I'm concerned.

I get news faster online now, but Wired is still a fun read when I have free time. The design wins big Sledge points. I wish I had subscribed during its glory days.

It is a great mag in my opinion....just I wish my subscription hadn't run out - they had such great articles and it was a friendly magazine to look at - I agree with the other guys - A good magazine!

I have been a long time reader, but frankly I'm letting my sub expire. They just are as biting or hard hiting. MaximumPC (formerly "boot" magazine), did mellow only a little bit in growing up into a long term mag. True, they are only for computers and related gadetry, but they have the style that Wired used to have (and still think they have).

And hell, if you really like it, check out their web site. Most (if not all) of the mag is up there. Plus news that is updated daily (I still read their news).

I Love(ed) Wired. As a matter of fact, I found the TFP surfing from a link on the Wired webpage. I agree with alt0220bergeek in that I used to read the print, but now look online instead. I also agree that they are losing their edge content-wise. I'll be sure to check out
MaximumPC.

I've subscribed for years and will certainly renew when the time comes.

It's been interesting watching it evolve from the flourescent brain-bashing layouts and futurist ravings of five years ago to the hip just-past-now vibe it has these days.

I like Wired so much I even read most of their advertisements. I haven't heard of MaximumPC I'll have to go check it out.

Wired is one of the most well-written, interesting magazines on the market, imho. Now that it has moved beyond the 'rah-rah, the Internet boom is great' 700-page, advertising-laden tome it once was, it's even better.

The recent article on Philip K. Dick was fantastic; it provided me with a lot of information I didn't know before (Dick was an almost penniless paranoid for most of his life).

I recently picked up a gift subscription for my brother up at Michigan State (it was free). Probably the best thing I can say about Wired is the interest that it generates for people that aren't normally into technology. I mean, I'm a tech geek of the first degree; of course this content is going to interest me. But my fiance also reads the mag, and she normally couldn't care less about techy things.

By incorporating a multi-faceted look at the topics they present, it increasing its appeal across demographics and interests. Technological, political, moral, historical, and practical considerations are well balanced with top-notch writing that doesn't condescend or patronize the average reader, or over-simplify the subject matter for the expert.

It's a great buy, to say the least!
