Upgrade or buy a new comp?
Back in april i got this compaq for 700$ from circuit city:
2.53 GHZ Pentium 4 512 DDR PC2100 120 GIG Ge Force 4 Mx 64 Meg AGP 4x mobo I added an extra 80 gig hd and got an ATI Radeon 9500 pro 128 meg in it now. I was thinking about getting an ATI 9800 Pro and http://stlpcsales.site.yahoo.net/1gbpcddnounh1.html But i wasn't sure this was the best thing to do now, or would it be better just to wait after christmas and see what comes out and build an entirely new system? |

looks damn fine
only thing you could get noticable benefit from is better video card - but difference won't be huge. agp 4x should be fine for current cards - unless someone here disagrees. but going from 9500 to 9800 is sooo not worth it.... wait for next generation or something? If you upgrade anything, get some PC2700 RAM if the motherboard supports it. I honestly wouldn't upgrade anything else right now. That PC will do fine for a good while. Even the videocard will be fine for the upcoming games.

That system seems fine to me. Heck, its nicer than mine. Dont worry about new stuff coming out every month. You dont need to upgrade it. I am still running a Radeon 8500 and it runs every current game I have thrown at it without a problem. Dont throw your money away unless you have a very good reason to spend it.

I would probably wait a while with upgrading or buying a new PC. You probably won't gain much speed or FPS becouse your system is quite nice at the moment. Now you must put much money into your PC to gain a little , wait a few months and upgrade your PC for the same price and gain alot!

Oh yeah, one more thing--that 9500 card is a fluke. It outperforms the 9600s out now, and IIRC, several of the lower 9700s. You have *NO* reason to get a new video card. ATI pulled the 9500 very quickly when they realized that they had released a card that competed with their best offerings at less than half the price.
