elemtary question for you pros out there...
I downloaded IrfanView, and really like it. It's got a great bit of features that are quite entertaining to fool around with. After fiddling for a while, I've come up with a quick question that I'm sure someone will be able to answer right quick:
How does one convert an image of a certain file type (say, a bitmap "BMP"), to a standard JPG? I tried a simple rename, but to no avail. Specifically, I'm trying to convert a picture I took that got saved as BMP to a JPG so I can make it my avatar... So... how does one do it? |
You can use Adobe Photoshop to do it, or Microsoft Paint (MS Paint works, but it decreases the quality a bit). I usually use MS Paint for quick stuff.

If you are just doing one picture then open the pick in Irfanview, click Save As, and then save as a JPG. I don't know how to do a bunch though.

Open within a photo editor.
Click File Click Save As At the bottom it says "Save as type" Select ".jpg" Click OK :) Some might be able to adjust your quality/filesize...better = bigger |
Irfan view also can do batch conversions (one reason we nerds love it so much). Rogue's instructions work for most any program, including IrfinView. You can also click 'advanced' in the save menu and mess with the compression (60 will make it very small without losing too much quality)
