No keyboard when booting
When I am booting my keyboard works when i get the chance to hit del to access bios menu. When the windows menu comes up for safe mode or for what install of XP to boot into, it does not work. Its a USB keyboard, but it did not have this problem on the last computer i used it on. Any ideas?

I have had this problem on multiple systems. The problem is Windows doesn't reckognize the keyboard. What you will need to do is find a ps/2 keyboard and hook up so you can log in. After you get logged in, you can go into the control panel and delete the USB ports. When you reboot, windows should install the USB ports as well as the Human Interface Device (HID) controller so you can use the keyboard.

windows doesn't recongnize USB keyboards, i had that problem too, it used to say "no keyboard detected" but it would still work. :P
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. |
iutsd not that windows wont for bios - your bios will Never recognize a usb keyboard- and this is before windows is even loaded
windows xp itself will have No Trouble with a usb kbd, this won't help your bios woes |
load your bios up with a ps2 keyboard and see if it has legacy keyboard usb support, then the bios should happily recognise a usb keyboard.

...and this is the reason that, even though i have a USB KVM, I still have a PS2 keyboard plugged into hte PC. so i can control LiLo.
