Using older speakers with a PC
I have some nice big home theatre speakers, state of the art 10 years old, still great sound quality. Their connections are just wires, which works fine with my old CD player but I want to hook these up to a computer I'm using as a dedicated mp3 server.
I'm just looking for some way to do this... price limit is about $100. Thanks! (Actually now that I think about it I'm not sure if this belongs on computers or how-to...) Last edited by rock_bottom; 11-11-2003 at 06:00 PM.. |

you are going to need a step up amplifier as well as some wiring connections, assuming first that your computer has a newish sound card with headphone outputs.
Your best bet is if you take the amplifier that you had the speakers connected to previously, and then get an adapter to take the output from the computer and use it as an input in the amplifier. If you dont have an amplifier, you may have to get one. Goodwill will have various stereo equipment that will do the job decently. Did this at home over the summer, but had to stop when I almost knocked over 2 china cabinets with the subwoofer (oops). numist |
