TV tuner/capture cards
I need something cheap. And I emphasize CHEAP. But, I want to be able to watch VCR feeds, and capture video and stills. Looking at Best Buy, I found this: http://www.ati.com/products/tvwonderve/index.html and it looks alright. Basic, but probably satisfactory. Oh, and it's cheap! Like $50 plus a $10 mail in rebate. Any body have experience with this, and the software that comes with it? One thing that I can't find is video capture resolution. I want a higher resolution for obvious reasons.
Thanks for the help! |
look for older All-in-Wonder agp ATI cards on ebay. Some have video in as well as out and come with good software as well as hardware decoding for less cpu strain.
If your looking for outstanding quality, then Haupage brand tv cards are spoken of well from people in the video industry, as well as those that spend a large amount of time ripping tv series. Full hardware decoding and universal drivers for max stability. Ebay them both actually. Hope that's a push in the right direction. |
Sounds good. I don't want a video card combo unit, because I don't want to replace the video card I already have, but the other info...I'll look in to that. Thank you.

ATI all-in-wonders have a bad history of being unstable. I have a TV card made by Leadtek. It's 50 bucks from www.newegg.com. I am very happy with this card and has TIVO-like features. If you want to know more about it pm me.

I have the ATI TV tuner card you mentioned. I think I got it for less than $40 at Wal-Mart.
I have it installed with XP, and have had no problems. I think the highest resolution video you can capture is 640x480, but you have lots of choices of format & resolution. Stills you can capture at 1024x768, or the ambiguous "desktop size", which may be higher. It's a great card, and it comes with software to do a TiVo imitation, with no fees or registration. I only wish I had cable or a decent antenna signal (instead of satellite), so I could watch TV on the PC. The ATI software has neat features for that, including the TV wallpaper option. I'd recommend it. |
