router security
hello.. .is there a way to control who can access the internet by the routers configuration settings?
I have 2 computers both connected to this routers. I want to disable 1 of the computers access to the internet when i'm away. WinXP pro in both machines and a linksys 4 port router with cable internet. i would realy love to know if its possible!

its a linksys etherfast cable/dsl router with 4-port switch model#: BEFSR41. I cant unplug the cable... thats too easy to just replug. I'm looking for a way to change the router settings so that the target computer's IP canot login to the internet.

you can filter out the MAC addresses who can access the internet if I recall correctly I had setup my router at one point in time doing such things to prevent someone from using my connection.
i dumped my linksys for a wireless barricade

I have the 8-port version of this router. Under the Advanced tab, there is another tab called Filters. In the first set of fields, it says "Filtered Private IP Range." In the open boxes there, enter the last set of numbers of the LAN IP that you want to block, and voila! It won't access the 'net.

with lynksys you can.
its under my filters page, select the ip range that the computer is in and restrict it to internal trafic only.
