Spybot Search & Destroy

Spybot Search and Destroy is really starting to piss me off. I have been trying to update the program and everytime I do so, it locks up. I reboot my comp and try again with the same result.

By this time I decide to just uninstall the thing only to find IT WONT UNINSTALL. Nothing pisses me off more than something on my computer that I cannot get rid of. I go to add/remove programs to uninstall it and when I click add/remove it just boots the program up.

I really hate to just delete the folder that spybot is in, but it's looking like that is what I must do. Anybody else have this problem?

I've used SpybotS&D a number of times and I've never run into this problem. I find it very odd that this happened, but perhaps is the result of maybe some malicious spyware that tries to disable programs like it? Try another program to see if there is SpyWare on your computer, or maybe even re-install OVER SpybotS&D and try to uninstall it...

Ahh, a fellow St.Louian. Have you ever tried to uninstall SB?

I was thinking that they might have disabled this funtion to ward off spyware that could uninstall SB, but I think that would be more of a virus than spyware, no?

When you are trying to update don't use the "UNIDO EURPOE" site. Just choose another site from the drop down menu.

I have to agree with this. Do NOT use this site (usually the default update site) because I have never been able to get any updates from it. Spybot hangs when it tried to go there, so I kill it, and then restart and change it to one of the other update sites (the FXclips site located in the US works well for me).

If you still can't update this way, on the lower right corner of spybot's webpage there is a box called update downloads that you can use to update your detections manually (you need to use this if you have to go through a proxy for internet access).

I had this problem.

I manually deleted SB. Then I downloaded the latest version. No more problems.

this is indeed the culprit with 99% of the problems people have with updating spybot, apart form that tho it is still an invaluable program to keep around.
