Does anyone remember the card that started this whole brouhaha about the next generation video card? I do because it was a great card. But, sans my nostalgia for an inanimate object, question for you is this: Given today's price and technology which would you buy a 9700 Pro or a 9600XT? Which is the better card and which gives you more bang for the buck? Just wondering.

the 9700 is the better of the 2 cards to get. much faster.

The 9700 Pro is much, MUCH better than the 9600 XT. The 9600 XT didn't live up to the hype. You can find a 9700 Pro for around $250. Now that's a damn good deal. The only bad part is that you can find 9800 Pros (128 MB) for a few dollars more and it's much more powerful.

IMHO, it all depends on what you are willing to spend and how much power you really need. I just recently bought (2 weeks ago) a 9600 Pro 256. I bought it cause I really need dual head and I was not about to spend upwards of $175 for a vid card. I bought my 9600 for $135 USD and would not trade it for the world. It all comes down to what you think you really need and how much you are willing to spend for it. For the amount of time that I spend gaming anything more expensive than this card for me was excessive. I am the one to tell you that the 9700 or 9800 is excessive for you? No.

Just my .02.
