AIM through a firewall?
AIM works but I can't do pictures file transfer. Anyone know what ports I need to enable?
|
I think AIM uses random ports, so you might be outta luck unless you can find a AIM connection tracker..
I may be wrong though :) |
There's always Trillian.
Uses AIM's (and MSN's and Yahoo's and ICQ's) network(s). I didn't have any problem sending/recieving files from behind Zone Alarm, but I haven't tried it more than a couple of times. |
TCP port 5190 needs to be opened on the Firewall, possibly UDP 5190 as well. I think you need a direct connection to transfer files.
|
Actually im not so sure that aim fully works with a firewall as some people I talk to with just your basic firewall have trouble sending and receiving files, and also sometimes cant direct connect.
|
Select your file transfer port in AIM and forward that port to your machine. I do it all the time from several different machines - all using different ports and all forwarded.

you got it, theres an option in new versions of AIM somewhere that allow you to specify what ports to use for connections i set mine to use the same as my FTP and got it forwarded through the router all is good in transfer land. |
