Making a picture out of a lot of small ones.
A lot of you have seen those pictures on the web where a picture is made out of a thousand small pictures that has the colorscale of the part in the big that it's representing. I was wondering if anyone knows of a photoshop plugin or a program that can make these easily.

They are usally called photomosaics, but robert silvers who does all the really famous ones owns the trademark on hat,
youll find a bunch on goole if you search for the photomosaic for instance http://www.fishsoft.co.uk/mosaic_magic.shtml It takes a lot of source images to make a realy good one, i wrote my own software to do it, and it uses a library of 500,000 images, but for more error margin or a higher repetition and smaller images, you can get away with a lot less. |
I've used Mosaicer in the past - it's freeware which makes me happy.

Cool links, I didn't realize you could buy software to do this.

I *hear* that there may even be a photoshop plugin for those with access to a large image database such as Getty Images.
I've only seen it's proof of concept on a G5 running photoshop 6 but it does exist. For free i doubt though. |
wow, thats cool.
