Opinions on F-secure's internet security suite.
I'm thinking about buying F-secure's Internet Security Suite and I was wondering, since i'm not verry good at computer security, how good it really is. I've heard nothing about their software firewall.
The only thing i have heard is that the virus protection is verry good and isn't as resourcedemanding as other antivirus programs. That's one of the main reasons I'm thinking of buying it it. But I'm interested in knowing if i can settle with the implemented firewall or if i should buy a router with firewall function aswell. As of yet i haven't really been interested in firewalls since my stepdad let me use one of his routers. But now he needs it back and I ave to come up with a solution.. Can't surf around on the net in the nude now can I.. ![]() Anyone has any thoughts on the matter? Sorry if this is a bit off topic in here but i don't know where else to ask. (btw. Did a search and couldn't find any thread similar to this question).

I don't think it's offtopic...
Anyway: Judging by the downloaded manual the software is quite good. The firewall configuration interface is really good. You can control the network access per application and also on a port/protocol basis. I'd recommend to download the evaluation version and if you manage to configure it properly than just go ahead and buy it. |

Fridrik Skulason, the man behind the company,
is an icon in the anti-virus business. Way back in the olden days of Usenet, he was pretty much the ultimate authority on comp.virus. (Maybe he still is -- I just don't hang out there myself any more). His original anti-virus program, f-prot, was free for home use and regularly outperformed its competition in tests -- in any tests that weren't done by John McAfee, that is. ![]() I've stuck with his stuff ever since my first PC -- from freeware on up to the current product line. I've never been disappointed in any way. Including, it should go without saying, by being infected with a virus. |
