Sixate - you always seem to have the best background on your comp. The thing is mine runs like crap whenever I run that stuff and mod the appearance.
I have a P4 1.7, 512 and a 64mb Ti200 Geforce3. Not great, but not terrible. I have to stay fairly boring.

My rig isn't really any faster, but I do have more RAM. Although, all the stuff I run doesn't slow me down. If it did I probably wouldn't have it all running. Time for a new pic. |

been a while since ive used anything save stylexp, but heres how they stack up (or at least have in the past, someone correct me if im wrong).
litestep is an actual shell replacement. open my computer? thats "explorer". explorer is the basic UI of all windows operating systems. litestep replaces explorer with "litestep.exe". generally it best performs as a minimalistic setup. also, theres not a whole lot of scripted dynamism, you have to pull the strings through a central cfg file and accompanying extentions used as you so choose window blinds is more straight forward, but the last i had heard/known (i havent checked out latest release, so i dont know how it works) is that it merely ads a skin over existing windows, effectively change the look/colors without actually using XP built-in skinning capabilities. stylexp is what ive been using, and while there have been the occasional bug, it seems to be the best skinning program for xp. it uses the xp base of skinning, and people have pulled off some fairly incredible things with it, standalone or in conjunction with various plugins/complimentary applications im really too tired to think straight, so if not all of this makes sense, ill be with you in the morning

ChipX86 is truely a man after my own calling. (actually its kind of creepy) I use floresence (which is the background he had up) from digital blasphamy 6 hours out of the day. (my backgrounds autorotate) and I go for pretty much the same minamalest style as him. (I.E. the desktop is just a place to stash translucent terminals)
I had always thought of enlightenment as being a bit big and noisy, but apparently it's not in its current incarnation. I use backbox, and in the screen you can see Gaim, and Xmms. I have other desktops, but thats the one I spend the most time on.
