give mandrake a try, it pretty much holds your hand thru it all. then graduate to others.

Mandrake will be the smoothest switch for you.

don't throw out that windows disc though. many new linux users enraged at microsoft (for whatever reason) or trying to go the L33t direction tend to get freaked out by Linux and switch back to windows.

I'm a Linux Newbie.

I chose Mandrake. Not based on any hard data, but because Leo Laporte told me to.....mmmmm..tv....

I've also tried Red Hat, but for a new guy like me converting from windows, I found Mandrake the most user friendly.

And like fuel wrote, don't throw out the windows discs...I set up a dual boot system and so I would feel comfortable moving in between enviroments and damned if it didn't work....

Best advice ever for someone starting out. And, of course, be sure to read the other posts linked to in here.
