mini-itx not small enough...behold nano-itx

"Nano-ITX is VIA's next generation small form factor embedded motherboard, measuring just 120mm x 120mm. The secret of Nano-ITX is the Nano-BGA (Ball Grid Array) package, which has allowed VIA to squeeze a 1Ghz C3 CPU into just 15mm square. This is a pre-production board, so specifications could change - but from our blurred photographs this version looks to have a VT8237 South Bridge, SODIMM RAM slot, SATA connector, 2 x IDE connectors, (1) PS/2 connector, TV-Out, 3 Audio Jacks, VGA, LAN, 2 x USB and a Mini-PCI slot on the reverse. There may be a heatsink on the real things, and we're not entirely sure how the board is powered yet."

LAN, TV-Out and SATA

Nice! I've been considering installing a "carputer" for some time. Now I just need to wait for the LCD touchscreens to come down in price.

That's pretty impressive!

It even has on-board LAN (looks like it, at least).
That'd be pretty cool for a mini-system. It'll probably be expensive as hell for a while though.

Oh well. I don't have the money for another computer right now anyway, even a cheap one.

I've been looking at the Mini-Itx's as I have an old, old, old Osbourne Victor 4 that I took apart and am itching to put back together in a new way. The only thing that will fit correctly is the mini-itx anybody actually have experiance with these boards?

Got any photos of the Osbourne Victor? Couldn't find any Google references to it.

I wonder why nobody makes motherboards based on mobile cpus... like the athlon mobile chip or the Pentium M. I think it'd be pretty remarkable to have a small, low-heat machine (much like this "nano-itx" board), but be powerd by a small 56W AC Adapter (no moving parts to make noise) and be super fast (Pentium-M speed, not crappy 1GHz C3 speed....)

I think I saw somewhere that some company was releasing a Mini-ITX mobo that supported P4 chips, but I don't think it's out in large numbers yet.

Great photo of the Vixen!

Yeah I want to put an LCD in place of the screen and use the existing keyboard with it. Lotta work....

I can't tell from the second photo if that's an S-video jack on the bottom left or a PS/2 port. You'd think that with so little space, they would forgo legacy connections, but at the same time, S-video seems pretty advanced.
