My stupid ass installed RealOne...
And now I can't play MPEG videos any other app but RealOne. When I try to play a file in Winamp (verisons 2 & 3) or Windows Media Player, I get an error message saying cpuinf32.dll and mplapx.dll can't be found, then the app subsequently crashes. Of course RealOne plays them just fine. How do I fix the dll problems, and what kind of problems should I expect from uninstalling RealOne?
Oh, I'm running WindowsXP home Service Pack 1 on an Athlon 1.0 Ghz 384 mb memory, 40 GB Western Digital harddrive, ATI Rage 128 Graphics card if that makes a difference. |

Did you try reinstalling Winamp and/or Media Player? Usually, that will do the trick. The only thing I would do is uninstall RealOne before doing any reinstalls. Let me know if this helps.

Noooooooooo. Never, ever install any Real products they will take over your system. The only way I got rid of it was when I had to format my hard drive. There is a Real alternative programme you can download from Kazaa lite homepage : http://www.kazaalite.tk/

After I uninstalled it, nothing but IE will connect to the internet now. I f'ing hate that "browser" and neither Opera or Moz will connect now, and killing that evil virus from my system was the only change in a good while. Need to reinstall apparently, but not so concerned about it as my knoppix box is usually hogging the monitor and the win2k box just gets powered on when I need to use the 5 year old scanner that doesn't play well with linux.

The problem is not in installing Real Player, the problem is you probably chose the express install. This is just like any other media player in that it will assume you want it to play all media types. What you should have done was do the full install and uncheck the boxes for the media types you want Winamp to handle. The winamp installer does the same thing.
Real is a fine product, you just need to get used to it. I think its better than winamp by a mile. Why is everyone down on Real? |

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...al+alternative and you can look for a player called Helix that will play rms and streams. the player is vbery primitive but it works. I got some wiredpussy vids in rm that I play just fine in Helix. Nice thing about Helix is it's totally standalone...it needs no install whatsoever unlike the dread real. Friends don't let friends install Real I think- *BUFFERING* ........................... that no one should *BUFFERING* ever install it.

real with just about every other media player made nowadays wants to hijack every media setting you have and make itself the default player for all media types, the real custom install is kid of tricky in the way the X boxes open or expand to reveal the other formats more pain in the ass than anything. just open winamp and go into its settings and make it the player of choice for whatever file types you have in mind, or if you wanna go the long route open you folder properties menu and manually change any file extension at all in windows to suit your needs.

Update: Once I got everything backed up I tried reinstalling Windows over the existing install. That not only didn't fix the problem, but made my computer incredibly sluggish as well. I ended up reformatting and reinstalling, everything works now. I'll make sure not to do that again.

RealPlayer isn't spyware. RealPlayer doesn't hijack your system. RealPlayer doesn't hog your system resources. It is a media player- yes when you install it it assumes you want a media player. How rediculous would it be if somebody installed it to play MPEGs and after install their MPEGs still wouldn't play? Advanced users like you and me can choose the custom install and select whatever media types we want it to handle. |

So you think that installing RealPlayer did this to your system, and you think that Windows' failure to fix the problem on re-install is the RealPlayer's fault? Come on. It isn't a system driver, it doesn't change your system settings. Something else flaked out on your system and it happened to coincide with installing RealPlayer. |

I HAVE to have RealOne or else everytime I start AOL up I get an error message saying it needs the proper media files (Real). So i installed it and then spent 20 minutes undoing all the change that RealOne does to your computer.
Pain in the ass....I do not remember telling Real that i wish for it to become the default player, make it start on system start, or anything else...
