I just got a router recently. I haven't played games online for a while now and thought about starting up again. Do I need to enable any ports for online gaming or should I be fine?

i would say depending on the router you should be fine. i almost never have to forward ports on my router to play games. when i need to i just dmz the pc im playing on then switch it back off.

some games require certain ports to work online. depends on the game, each one uses different ports. DMZ is the perfect solution so that you don't have to mess with the router...

Well, I have a MS Wireless setup, and DSL, since installing the MS stuff, I can't play Age of Kings online. I've tried setting up DMZ, but no go. Sucks.

I've used a router before and I never had to mess with any port settings.

DO NOT USE DMZ IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A SOFTWARE FIREWALL

Just thought I'd mention that.... The router does not normaly allow internet users to route packets into your LAN.

usualy no, only if you host a game do you need open ports

Very good advice! Using DMZ without a software firewall is an invitation to let someone take over your computer!
