enable cookies
Hi, everybody
I hope somebody could help me on this. I went to OSU website ( go Buckeye!) when I click on one link, the message keeps coming up that I have to enable the cookies in order to view the page. Now I have gone to the security section of the internet options and lower the security level all the way down ( didn't help) and check the " always accept cookies" in the advance section and still can not log on. Is there any other ways to enable cookies that I don't know about? ( I'm using window 98 ) Thanks in advance for all the help!!! |

well, also try the "privacy bar" on internet options and lower it one or 2 levels.
also, if you have a firewall, it might do this.

go to Tools->Internet Options
there should be a "privacy" tab there. and it's "Dude", not "Duke" although it sounds cool.

I keep my IE6 locked down pretty tight and was going to try the link you are referring it. Unfortunately, osu.edu has got about 1,000 links on the page. Can you tell us which link you clicked?

Rubicon, thanks for the reply.
The link I referred to either 'RELINK' or 'RESLINK'. And the security bar that THE DUDE (sorry for the misspell)referred to doesn't exist in earlier IE ( I'm using one that came with window 98). He mentioned remove the firewall but I don't remember ever install it. How do I check it? ( firewall or not) |

Look up to the top of IE. See "Tools"? Click that. Click on "Internet Options". Under the "General" tab, go down about halfway and click on "delete files". Those are temporary files so your not going to lose any important data. Sometimes there are too many files. If you want, go to the "advanced" tab, scroll down to "security" and check the box that says "empty temporary internet files when browser is closed". It is a personal preference. While your in there, click on the security tab in the "Tools" menu, and set your security level to "default level". I hope this helps.

I couldn't find a "relink" or "reslink" on www.osu.edu. I clicked around a bit and nothing peculiar happened.
Can you give me another link to try?

Could also try puttin the URL in the trusted sites catagory.

I clicked the link and got the cookie warning. I double-clicked the STOP sign in the lower right of the IE window. I right-clicked the first URL listed and selected "Allow All Cookies".
I closed IE (you have to because the cookie is session based and the easiest way to clear it is by closing and opening IE again). I clicked the link and got the login screen. I can't go any furhter (for obvious reasons). I didn't need to add the URL to my Trusted Sites list (yet). Does this help?

Hi, rubicon, I try that and it didn't work. you must have a newer IE. I tried to add the URL to my trusted sites and this is what I got
when I tried to add the site to the trusted sites, it is saying "The site you entered already exists in another zone, please remove it from that zone before adding it to the current zone. What should I do ? |

It sounds as if you have that URL in another IE zone. Look through each zone for the URL and remove it from where it doesn't belong.
If that doesn't work and you don't have someone who can help you in person, perhaps you can try an updated version of IE or a different browser such as Opera, Mozilla, etc.

Can you explain what you mean by "can't log on"? What's happening on your screen?
If you want to work through this a little faster, hit my IM - you'll find it in my profile.
