Searching for the perfect brew!

Yet another RIAA question

I read other threads and downloaded Peer Guardian knowing nothing is Foolproof but are they going after people downloading or people allowing others to upload? I quit sharing about a year or more ago, I know I pisses some off that I take without sharing but will that help save me from the RIAA?

i heard they are initially targeting those who share large amounts of copyrighted material. but i'm pretty sure they won't stop there. so just to be safe, just go buy the cd. or download it legitimately. i hate the RIAA, but they have their point -- to an extent.

this whole thing reminds me of high school days in economics with talk about supply and demand. when demand is up, supply is down, therefore driving the costs up. if demand is down, supply is up, therefore driving the costs down. however the RIAA is immune to this. since napster, the demand for cd's (supposedly) went way down, driving the supply up. which should, according to economics, drive the cost down. instead of that happening, until recent price cuts, the RIAA sues napster, sues college students, and will probably sue anyone who mentions the word mp3.

just seemed funny to me how with money, you can be exempt to the laws that we were taught. but at the same time, the artists don't get anything extra out of platinum status album sales.

[sarcasm]
go RIAA

Also move your files to a different directory that your file sharing app doesnt see. No, you wont share them for a while, but you will still have access to them. this crap shold blow over in a bit once they think they have made a big enough ass of themselves. Freakin corporate assholes.........

the main reasons (aside from the fact that is illegal) I do not touch the P2P is the overall shoddy quality of the files on there. If the majority of the illegal MP3 files out there were at least encoded with recommended LAME settings then I might possibly consider them for at least a millioneth of a second before going out and buying the CD anyway. The only files I would seriously look at would be MPC files encdoed at standard or above and Flac or APE files, my ears are too unforgiving to tolerate some shitty CBR MP3 encoded through RealPlayer or Xing software.

well, i am still right because the girl they're after was sharing like over 1000 songs. like i said, they are targeting first those who share lots. i guess they are trying to axe the source and hope this will scare enough people out of doing this.

while i cannot agree with you more, they have lowered the cost of cd's to around the 10 dollar range. something that should have been done long ago.

i'm fairly fine with paying for a dvd that i can watch over and over again for at least 2 hours at a time. that is worth the 20 bucks or so. and if you're smart about it, walmart usually has the new releases for sale at around 14 dollars. that is still cheaper than your cd you damn RIAA.

I just took a semester covering Intellectual Property Law and I see it in different terms. If someone shares files and charges a lesser fee to person so they can save money vs going to a music store then they're headed for a bust. Now if they just share to share files they are headed for a bust.

I wonder how many people have went to jail for taping something off cable or a another VHS and gave it to a friend. THis is bullshit in my eyes, but I know it appears theres nothing that can be done about it.

Whats puzzling is I dropped by IMesh today and there still the allot of people sharing songs. However something very strange started happening ***I have to word this as to not violate TFP rules. . .lets say a person was doing a search for something and initally it popped up with results and then a few seconds later flash no results found. Ive never seen that before very odd.

I know this is a hot topic and there are good arguments on both sides. I usually buy the cds of artists I really like after downloading some of their music to see if I like what I hear. I hear a song on my satellite or radio and download a few songs to see if I like any of their other music or if their just a one hit wonder.

Could anyone answer my initial question.

By not sharing files am I any safer from the RIAA(Recording Industry Asshole Association)
