Error downloading Codec
I downloaded some movie files off Kazaa and when I play them in Windoze Media player, it says 'error downloading codec' and then treats them as if they were audio files.
Most likely they're just corrupted files, but I imagine someone else has run into this problem. Someone told me that you can search for codecs on Kazaa and you can find a program that installs lots of codecs and that might make some of them work. Is this true, and if so, is it safe? Thanks in advance!! |
Go and dowload gspot http://gspot.headbands.com This will tell you what codec you need to get before you can view those movie files.
The reason that you get 'error downloading codec' is because the media player can't "identify" or "find" the correct codec on the MS website. There are a bunch of codec packs that are available that install the most common codecs. I haven't really looked at them so I can't tell you how "safe" they are. |
Do a search for "Dolby AC3 Decoder" thats usaly one of the codes the Win Media player can't seem to download also in might br in DivX format, you can go to DivX.com can down load the code form their. most videos are in DivX now a days, hope this helps!

Make sure you have: XviD codec. I know a lot of people who don't have this one.
click the link below XviD |
Nimo codec pack? Although this sometimes causes more trouble then it avoids.
Also try using other players like Videolan client and BSplayer. They all work on some files that the others don't. It's downright weird, and a testament to loose coding practices in video compression and storage... |
search for this ffdshow-20020617.exe
It helped me, installs several codecs including divx |
http://www.kazaalite.tk/
Go there and download the KLite Codec Pack. That has pretty much every codec you need. Enjoy. |
