There is a free download to a product called Peer Guardian which will block probes from known RIAA IP's. It also constantly updates it's database with the latest IP's that they are using.

Of course, none of us download media from P2P networks so we have nothing to worry about...

Does the new version of Kazaa protect you from that? I was under the impression that it did.

Yea, but the problem is this: How do you know what people viewing your files are actual RIAA employees and how many are legitimate users?

Also, how can you tell the difference between an RIAA employee at home on his/her dialup connection at home writing down IPs and what you're sharing, vs. a legitimate user from the same dial-up ISP?

It, at first, sounds like it's an instant cure -- then you stop and think about it and it doesn't really work.

The RIAA can probe my computer as much as they want; they're not going to be able to do anything about it whatsoever. After all, I'm in the Netherlands, not the US.

This is useless. The RIAA probably hires college kids to nark off a shitload of kids in their college or whatnot. I mean, think about it, if you worked for the RIAA you'd know this and it's way too easy to get around. You're not protected unless you don't share anything at all and don't download anything.

It's impossible to make a truely 'anonymous' sharing network untill IPV6 comes into full swing. IIRC there is something in V6 that can have direct connections anonymously.

the RIAA makes me gag I hope they spend a billion dollars litigating and prosecuting harmless college students who can never pay them back a dime and file-sharing explodes despite all of it.

I use Peerguardian but I really don't hold out hope it is doing anything more than leech more resources from my computer. The only way to know for sure would be for some RIAA numbnuts to tell you otherwise.
