Help. AMD 2800+ CPU is only running at 1.25 GHz
 

Computer Specs:

Soltek 75FRN2-L NForce2 Socket A Dual DDR Motherboard
AMD Athlon 2800+ 512K 333 FSB Barton Core
Samsung 1 Gig PC2700 DDR333 RAM
WD Caviar 120 GB HD

I purchased all the parts for a friend of mine, built this new system, but during the POST and the boot up screen, it says it is An AMD Athlon 1.25 GHz. Even in the Windows System Information in the Control Panel is showing it as 1.25 GHz. This CPU is supposed to be running at 2.6 Ghz.

Any suggestions on what I should do? Something I overlooked? Any help will be greatly appreciated as my friend is anxiously waiting for his new computer.

Makes sure your multipliers match your FSB..

looks like your multiplier is a 12.5 but you need to set your FSB up to 166.

There is most likely a jumper on the motherboard called "FSB Jumper." You need to flip it to the 166 MHz side. If it's on Auto or 133, then it can and WILL cause a fuck up. Look closely on the motherboard, I gaurantee it's there. If there isn't a speed setting, then make sure the FSB jumper is simply NOT on "auto."

There's the necessary info on this picture I uploaded. Looks like you need to fix the jumper on JP2 so that 2 and 3 are closed up for 166 FSB.

it should be able to be changed in teh bios

press del or f1 or f8 or what ever you need to get to bios look for a place where you can change the front side bus

and change it to 166.

See, that works, but it's also the equivalent of overclocking your processor just to get it to the right speed. The motherboard should detect the correct CPU without changing any settings in BIOS. If it doesn't, then I bet there's a BIOS update for it. The motherboard jumper must be set or it simply won't work.

no the amd's dont always deteck it, my freinds consistantly under clocks to 100mhz FSB instead of 133. he just sets it back when it needs to be

Setting that jumper correctly will allow the bios to correctly detect his barton's FSB and will show it as the 2800+ when he boots. Dilbert: some mobos don't have jumpers like that, they allow you to pick from 100/133/166 in BIOS software alone, which is what you're talking about. Different mobo manufacturers use different methods.

Jumpers were set correctly, I just needed to change the FSB speeds in the BIOS. Now it recognizes the 2800+ and it is running at 2.06 GHz.

I'd flash the BIOS if you had to change it just to make it recognize the processor. My old Abit NF7-S had that problem. The only way it'd recognize my Barton was to flash the BIOS with an update.
