Adcaster?
Aight.
I have Adaware installed and it picks up everything. But the software seems to miss this Adcaster thing. I get internet pop-up messages from them, and I don't know how to prevent it. So, how can I get these messages to stop? I don't think their software is on my computer, near as I can tell they seem to come through Messenger. I don't use or care about Messenger. I searched this board and couldn't find a thread on spam that can't be stopped by adaware. Hope I didn't miss anything - I don't frequent this board. I have a new computer, and there's nothing on it really, and I'd just lke to protect it against garbage like these guys. So, if you know how to make this stuff stop, I'll send good thoughts your way. And you can't beat good thoughts. Here is the spammers website: www.geocities.com/spamford666 |

You might want to install SpyBot . It can sometimes catch things that Adaware doesn't. Personally, I use both Adaware and Spybot.
The link is http://www.safer-networking.org/ If the above doesn't help, you might want to install Zone Alarm, it will stop incoming traffic. It's at http://www.zonelabs.com Click on the link for the free version. |

Open a DOS prompt and type "net stop messenger"
That should stop any irritating popup spam you get. As for that page, I reported his ass for Improper Page Promotion/Spam and he should at least get a warning from them, if not shut down entirely. |

Anyone else that searches this board because of this problem has only a few choices (as I see it): 1. Disable Messenger (this is what I did, I don't use it anyway) 2. Use some sort of firewall software, like others suggested. Anyhow, I can see how this type of spam could be effective, especially on people like me that know less about computers. Good thoughts have been sent the way of MrSelfDestruct, and his lot in life will soon be improving. Thanks. |
