Google Has no Guts
Google Has been ordered to block all results for kazaa lite if you search "Kazaa", and they arent even fighting. I think this is cowardly and unless they reverse this We'll find many people switching search engines, which is sad, because for quite a while google has been the king

i just searched for "Kazaa" on Google and everything came up just fine. But if they think that that is going to stop people from finding and using Kazaa they are insane.

That is insane. The only reason I discovered Kazaa Lite was because of word of mouth. The person who told me about it would probably offer the homepage for me to download it.
The only reason I've searched for kazaa on google would be to find a quick download. Blocking it on google would only slow me down.

We can "vote with our feet" and use a different search engine... Or maybe someone wants to start up a database that includes all of the "banned from google" sites, and then people could search with this database, which would first use a web service to query google, then merge those results with the search results from the banned database (ranking those higher, too?) and returning the results as a Google+Banned search result...
Anyone want to program www.GoogleBannedSearch.com? |

I could be wrong, but doesn't Google usually remove the possibly offending items until it checks with it's lawyers? (or was it the other way around?). Either way I think that because of how the law is being used, that they might have to remove the content before checking to see if it is legal, and then reinstate the content after the lawyers say that the complaint is "without merit".
It's really hard to say with the Riaa and everybody else suing everybody else out of existence (or past its existence in the case of napster). |

Ha ha! I really don't think this will make much difference. People who want kazaa lite are still going to be able to get it. I didn't here about kazaa lite by searching for kazaa anyway, i heard about it from other people and it's true it's way way better than Kazaa.
IMO, this will make little to almost no difference at all.

If you search for "Kazaa Lite" the main downloads sites ARE blocked. It's also mentions at the bottom that several links have been removed for legal purposes.

Since when did google become responsible for fighting against other peoples trademark/copyright violations anyway ?
Thats what the courts are for, refusing to use google because of a legal action against them doesn't seem very logical. TFP doesn't allow warez serialz etc to be posted for the same reasons, should we withdraw support for it as well ? |

"In response to a complaint we received under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, we have removed 9 result(s) from this page. If you wish, you may read the DMCA complaint for these removed results." lol.

This is not googles fight. They don't need to get sued for someone elses crap. And They would loose based on the DMCA. So even if they fought it would still come down. The law is at fault here not Google.

No sir, I don't like it.
I am disappointed and concerned by these happenings. So Google has been forced to remove sites, to keep people from finding certain content, based on the DMCA. Website authors were silenced. The DMCA just violated the freedom of speech, didn't it? The next logical step would be to force Google to disclose the IP addresses of people searching for "Kazaa" or "Kazaa Lite" to RIAA, for further investigation. I don't know whether RIAA is thinking the same way, but I know those nefarious gears in their skulls are cranking away, finding new and surprizing uses of these ill-conceived laws.

What's next, a clause in the DMCA that makes it illegal to talk about Kazaa Lite, or mention it in a public place? |
