Shutdown on Restart
I was helping my friend do so maintenance on his computer tonight over the phone. The one thing I couldn't solve was that when he would restart his computer it would shut down instead of restarting. He has XP home edition and I did a google search but the solution I was going to use only showed up for Win98 not XP. Any help would be appreciated.

Windows still has this problem? :)

Assuming that he has a legit copy, email Microsoft about it and ask if they have a fix. If he hasn't done it yet, get the service packs. You should always keep a computer up-to-date anyway.

Was he restarting the right way Start shutdown restart or was he just pushing the button on front of computer
|
Yeah, if he was simply hitting the power switch, then that's a software command to Windows XP to shut down. If you hit reset, then it simply resets the computer manually without shutting down the operating system. If he's actually going to Start>Turn Off Computer>Restart and it turns off, then I have no idea what the problem is. :)
