Laptop bags
What do you people like that is out there?
Just throw the computer in a backpack? Buy a special bag for it? Backpack or messenger style? I just have come to realize that my current backpack has next to no padding and I don't look forward to using it to protect mr.300m |

If you can afford a proper bad defintiely go for one. I had one a few years back but sold it when I sold the computer. I've used an over-the-shoulder bag since then and it's definitely not as safe for the computer. Have to be a lot more careful when carrying it around. There's really no padding at all.
The padding is much needed not just if you drop the thing but also if you run into something.

I used to carry my laptop back and forth from home to university. It was relatively safe in my backpack. I usually wrapped the laptop in a laundry bag (sold at a local Army surplus store). Just put it in the bag, and fold it over a few times. Gives a little more protection, and the number of times I dropped it, no serious damage was incurred.

Check out timbuk2 messenger bags. I love mine to death. You can customize it online, down to the colors.
They have various sizes of laptop sleeves that fit into the bag itself. http://timbuk2.com/

I'm not sure if they still do, but L.L. Bean used to sell backpacks with a seperate padded compartment for a laptop. They would probably be the way to go if you wanted an over the shoulder bag.

I just recently bought a Targus Rakgear backpack... a ton of space, really well made, ergonomic (great for tons of weight), and they have these racks in the storage compartment that really make things easier.

I had a lot of trouble finding an affordable bag that would fit my laptop, an Inspiron 5100. 5100's are kind of thick and the 15" screen doesn't help either.
I also didn't want to give up my current pack so I just bought a laptop sleeve from www.ebags.com Sleeves cost about $20 and I've had no problems using my daily use messenger bag or my standard pack when I bike somewhere. |

Another Targus here.
I definately wouldn't use a non-padded bag.

Put another one in the Targus category. Here's mine:
http://www.targus.com/us/product_details.asp?sku=TSB315 I bought one of these sports bags two years ago and have used it non-stop ever since. It has an unbelievable amount of room in it for tools, software, cellphone, keys, books, etc. It also can carry a desktop replacement large-sized laptop with no problem.

Targus here too...I invested the money in the best one they sold....that way it's safe for my laptop and I can fit all my electrical tool for school in it (multimeter, screwdriver, Cables, CDs etc) Well worth the money in my opinion.

Depending on the size of your laptop, there are some excellent Tumi bags that have very good padding in them. They're a bit high-end, but very durable and they are pretty stylish. They don't look quite as dorky as the backpack-style or generic-looking Targus bags...
