Rounded Cables.......A must?
i got the standard cables on my pc now and i'm thinkin about going to rounded cables, mainly for the cool factor.
there is no problems with the air flow (as the temp is normal) and i do have a window case. if i go with rounded cables, what color should i buy? my case is silver, so should i buy silver cables or cables with striking colors to the case? and the transfer rate is pretty much the same for both kinds of cables right? |
Well, do you have lights in your computer? i have a black light and use UV reactive rounded cables cause they glow bright and stand out. Its all on what you want your case to look like, where you have it, and how much you want to spend (not that big of a factor though). Also, the transfer rate should be identical to what you had before its only squishing all the cables into a rounded tube.

i dont have any lights inside the pc (i do have 3 fans that glow).
i saw the UV cables, but they're a lil too much i'm willing to pay for cables. |
I like the clear ones with what looks like tin foil in them, Or the black non-shiny ones... I'm not a fan of fruity colors, but its your computer case.

I've got some silver ones in mine at the moment. They've got a braided metal sheath with clear plastic covering. It looks good against the inside of the case.
These aren't exactly the ones I have but thery're pretty close. http://directron.com/silveride.html |
I use normal cables for simple computer (one hard drive and one or two cd drives) The only real reason I use rounded cables in my main computer is I may have up to 10 ide devices in at a time and rounded cables just make it easier to cram all that stuff into a tiny spot.

I'm using similar ones to Scorpion23, I've got a green light in my case and the cables reflect the light very nicely. Rounded cables are not only cool but they're damn sight more tidier too. Only problem I have with them is that they're quite stiff and not as "posable" as flat IDE cables.

silver cables would look cool :D

i use 2 grey/silver ide rounded cables and a blue floppy cable to match the light. The blue one is kinda hard to see, but if you look where the 5 1/4 bays narow down to the 3 1/2 cages you ccan see it.

My dad got me some wire loom that's black so I just use that. Makes my case very clean looking. I have a case window, a PSU with blue LEDs, and a blue cold cathode.

I put Antec Cobra Rounded Ribbons in my PC. I'm not a modder/case freak anymore, so I simply got them for the airflow factor. They do look damn cool though; not too flashy, and not dull. They're inexpensive too; bought two IDE's for 10 dollars and one Floppy for 10 dollars.

Rounded cables are also good because they're much easier to plug in and detach. Temperature reduction, however, is insignificant unless you have a boatload of ribbon cables in there. Transfer rates are identical. I like the cables that glow in UV light.

This might be a little off-topic because you mentioned that you have already bought your motherboard, but for your next computer consider going Serial ATA (do they have SATA CD/DVD drives yet?). I just did a computer that was all SATA (no cd drive) and it was really great. The SATA cables are super thin and really easy to plug in, and if you have a power supply that does SATA power, that's even better!

I use Glow in the Dark rounded cables in my case.
They are not that much more than regular ones. With a silver case I would go with either the braided silver cables or black. One place that always has deals on cables is svc.com. |
