SBC Yahoo, support and my mail box
set_rant 1
Today I put in an order to Newegg and I decided to check and see if I got a conformation e-mail. So I went into Mozilla and went to my online mailbox. Now understand that I have two email address directing mail to this box so I get alot of spam. I also have a hard time keeping up with deleting it all so I have tons of unread emails. Well to make a long story short, instead of finding a inbox 60% full it was empty. I had about 360+ unread emails. All gone. Some important ones but mostly spam. This is the second time in 6 months this has happened. So I called SBC support. Big mistake. I get some girl (she sounded very young) and I can tell she's going of her tech support manual. "Let's send some test emails and check and see" "Do you have cookies on?" "Lets close all your programs to make sure nothing is interfiering" But wait what does this have to do with my emails being deleted?!?! "Ok, go to tools>internet options and.." WAIT! I DON'T USE INTERNET EXPLORER! I USE MOZILLA! "Use what? What is Mozilla?" "Let me ask someone" "Sorry sir but we don't support anything other than IE" At this point im about to lose it so I ask for a supervisor and tell her that it's not her fault she's poorly trained. So I get this guy and tell him "Look, I have a pretty good idea how tech support works and I know that she's doing her best to help me. But she has no clue. Someone with moderate computer experience would know that this problem isn't with me but with your email system. YOU have a problem. Someone, something has deleted MY emails on YOUR end. All I did was check my email using a perfectly good browser from one day to the next and they're gone. This is the second time this has happened in 6 months! I'LL NEVER GET THESE EMAILS BACK. LOOK INTO IT!! I'm not some novice, I'm certified.(I couldn't help to throw that in, I was pissed) I think I know how to check my e-mail!!!!" "Ok, I'll send a "spike" to systems and have them look into it sir." set_rant 0 Anyone ever have this problem with Yahoo mail or SBC-Yahoo mail? I really like to use web based email. Very convienent for me cause I use about 3 different computers a day.

well, no baecause I would never trust a webmail system to store my email.
quite honestly whay you should do is grab or write a little program to download your yahoo mail thru the web interface. Set it to run daily, and then use some sort of decent spam filter. My personal setup uses a program called "fetchyahoo" which is pretty much a perl script (free, look on freshmeat) I don't have a spam problem, but if I did I heard that thunderbird has a built in bazean mail filter. Being a mozilla fan you should love it. honestly man tech support is'nt going to help you, what you lost is gone, and they arn't going to be able to stop it from happening agian.

This is the main reason I still use webmail as my main email. I'd like to move away from it because of ads, spam, and my untrusting of other people with my data.... does anyone have any other suggestions? |
