virus symptom?
 

i just came back from vacation and when i started my computer and logged online, after a few minutes i got this weird popup saying that the computer "Remote Procedure Control" was ending and my computer would restart in 60 seconds.

i thought it was a regular pop up, but i couldnt close it and sure enough after 60 seconds my computer restarts. now whenever im on the net, it randomly shows up and restarts my computer for no apparent reason.

has anyone heard of this or knows what i can do to remedy the problem? im thinking about reformatting the whole hard drive but i want to use that as my absolute last option.

any help would be appreciated.

oof.. i would close some ports if I were you. Get a hardware firewall or something and shut your machine off from the net. It is the best way to be secure.

thanks guys...its a shame that i turned off those damn updates long time ago. shouldve known better.

anyone know how i could turn those bad boys on again?

if you wanna manually update windows, go to Tools, Internet Options (in internet explorer).

to turn 'em on to auto-update in the future, right click on My Computer, go to Properties, click on the Automatic Updates tab and put a check on the box that allows auto-updates.
