Problems saving images in IE
This is the weirdest thing...
I host a site for a friend of mine, she's into some...blinky stuff. Hum. I dunno. Anyways...she got a hold of me earlier and said that her "blinkies" cannot be downloaded from the server as GIFs, which they are, but the browser always forces them as bitmaps. I don't know what this could be about, so I am asking the wiser ones. Oddly enough, I cannot save the images as GIFs either, while I can do so on other sites. Example: http://spellbound.modcenter.net/blinkies/Animation6.gif Apparently, NO ONE so far has been able to save these GIFs as the animations they are. I mean, wtf? This is on MSIE, that is. Using Netscape, though, I can do it just fine. What could this be about? I read this article by Microsoft but it does not seem to apply to this case.

Is she running Windows 2000? If so, I've had the same problem. The only solution I've found so far is to right click on the graphic, select 'copy' then paste it into PhotoShop or some such program and save it that way.
It's a pain in the ass, but it works.

That happens to me sometimes. I believe its because the pictures are in a database or some script on the page prevents you from saving the file as it actually is using the save image command.

I have that happen occasionally in IE. I normally restart IE and it's all good. I haven't bothered to find a solution since I have switched to Firebird, but the typical 'update IE, search for adware' advice holds true I am sure.

Yes - it seems to be site-specific. I have the same problem a lot of times at Suze.net.
Like charliex suggested, I also found out that if restarting and emptying my cache doesn't work, using "Save Target As" seems to get around the problem. It takes a little more time, but not nearly as much as downloading all those bmp files and converting them to jpgs - of course, that's irrelevant for animated gifs - converting won't work at all on them.
