ok, i just started college and..
i can't use any peer 2 peer programs, it sux!! anyone know of anything i can do to get some mp3s, like a good ftp or something? i can't live without my kazaa :(
|
If you let people know what school you are at they may be able to help but I would assume each school is different.
If you do get it working be carefull. I know that when I was in school the university watched how much bandwidth you were using and if you were one of the top few for a couple months in a row they cut your connection. |
Get a friend to download it for you, and send it to you over AIM. Only way I've managed to get stuff at school. Not even my friends in CITS have found any p2p programs that work for us.
|
The network probably has most p2p ports blocked. There are big websites you can go to that have a bunch of programs to choose from and they might be able to help you around that problem. I won't link to any, because the TFP doesn't dig file sharing.
|
Yeah i went to a school like that, fucking catholic school, jesus..anyways, i just delt with it, it sucked, and i hated it.
|
Bit stream seems to be the new p2p champ. Just about anything is avail. Search on Google for Bit Torrent for a peek.
|
my friend, say hello to irc.
download an irc client from www.mirc.com and search the entire irc network thru search engines like www.ircspy.com or www.isohunt.com Antagony has written a good guide for using irc for the tfp chat http://tfproject.org/tfp/showthread....threadid=18231 and should teach u the basics. pm me if u need any help with irc. |
same at my uni in england...all p2p is "disabled" (there are ways around the fire walls they have set up...speek to some techies at ur college if they can help).
I use a program called sharescan2 to search the university network...ie all the files that are being shared by ur college friends. works quite well although can chew up resources on older machines and crashes ME and 98 a lot...dunno about 2000 but XP copes fine... did a quick google and found this site http://tucows.wooow.it/preview/220820.html dunno if it works but try it...its cool. u just need to set up some ip addresses...again ask the techies... or tilted computers! |
IMESH, its wonderfull!!! fast, effective, all my friends downloaded it after they found out that the server and our college doesnt support it either, and the fact that i was the only one that could download a shit load of music.
|
oh ya movies and pictures and for you guys lots of porn (found that out when i let one of my guy friends download some stuff while i was gone for the weekend) oh ya dont do that if you dont already know cuz my mouse got broken 2 times and so did my web cam. friends may be friends but because of that they think that they dont have to pay you back right away, then you never get your money.
good luck in college |
get a wireless internet connection and bypass their whole network
Its what Ive done, |
Bit Torrent and mirc are great, i go to a school that blocks most ports and they work just great, but i did find that blubster and grokster worked fairly well and they are regular p2p programs.
|
Try direct connect, and just set it up for the network,
|
I use a program called KaZaaHTTP... it allows you to use KaZaa (or KaZaa Lite, K++) over a HTTP firewall/proxy.
Google it.. I don't have the site, sorry. |
you are in a dorm, correct? go to each person in your hall and borrow thier cds and rip them to MP3 or burn them. I assure you you will have more music than you have space for. It's a good way to meet people too (hint: go to the girls hall/floor).
|
The best solution i have is http-tunnel however it costs money (not much), but i feel VERY much worth it www.http-tunnel.com all you got to do is download the tunnel, and then run kazaa lite and set it to use 127.0.0.1 as your socks5 proxy server. low and behold you are downloading at FULL speed. Just remember, the tunnel doesn't like uploading, it has some 'issues' with uploading large files cause it has to load it all in ram which if its a 700mb movie file, well you get the idea.... just turn off sharing in kazaa
|
actually you could use *any* high port. They can't block the high ports because thats where client programs move their connections too more or less randomly. So just change your deefault port to 2000 and you will be fine.
|
.........
use soulseek .
it would work in my college dorm while kazaa, gnutella, and emule did not. it is the best p2p client for mp3s there is. try it, and you'll never want to use kazaa again. |
how do i change my ports?
|
Thumbs up for BitTorrent, it rocks
Check it out! |
