Search Engines
they're pissin me off these days.
i search for something in a search engine and the results are other search engines searching for the same stuff (except the results in the 2nd search engines are mostly what u'd call "sponsered results"). how are they doing this? and how can i avoid this? |
google, and specific search terms? I pretty much only use google, and never noticed the problem you are having
|
Use a different search engine. Like Google.com or Teoma.com
They are doing this because: A) They give money to the other search engine, and make money off advertising B) They just take your search query and send it out to other search engines, compile the results, and spit them out at you. |
i extensively rely on yahoo for my searches. i guess i'll try some others.
|
not "some others" google man, google.
This is one of those cases where they are dominateing the market for a reason. as a side note, try out the following neat google tricks Calculator... google for say "13 * pi" or "cups in a gallon" site serarches... if you only want things in a specific domain (like say my univercity) search "site:usc.edu what I'm looking for" Google is a really powerfull tool, and getting stronger all the time. |
google is your friend (see sig)

Yahoo? That's the problem. They also sell the right to be higher in the results list. Goolge is the ultimate search tool for news, images, newsgroups, the web, and tons of cool little things that big companies won't consider. Read up on http://google.com/options for some real cool shit they got going on.
I've been using it almost exclusively since they were a beta site about 5 years ago. It truely is my favorite thing about the internet. Http://google.com/about.html |
