A GeForce 4 MX 440 with RedHat 7.2
Hello Everybody. I can't seem to get RedHat 7.2 to properly load XFree86 with my MSI Geforce 4 MX 440. Has anybody fixed this problem? If so, how do I go about fixing it? An error message states there are no available screens. I'm not sure if I'm running Xfree86 3.3.6 or 4.0.1, or if they conflict with each other. Redhat 7.2 is fairly old however, so I might just get 9 something. Anyways, Thanks in advance.

i don't know all that much about linux, but i just thought i'd mention that my redhat 8 installation works ok and i have the exact same video card you do. maybe you're right about getting a newer version - good luck
i once tried to reconfig x and it was a mess btw, the cooling fan on my vid card makes funny buzzing noises, have you had any problems with yours?? |

sorry, i reinstalled mandrake 8.2 and it works fine, other than the fact that i hate it. Anyways thanks for the help. and longjohns, try picking up a little computer fan from an auto supply store (yes, lots sell computer fans,) and replace the vid card fan with it. just make sure that the connection is the same, and if it isnt, take the fan connector and splice it onto the new fan's wires.

yeah, one of these days i'm gonna do something about it. it's only intermittent, so i've been living with it...
actually for a little while i was going to use it as an excuse to play around with water cooling ("since i'm replacing this fan anyway....") but that's not going to happen. i thought it might be fun though! |
