Warranty
I just purchased a new PC. I got the cheapest warranty they allowed (1-year). Do you guys think it's worth it to change it to a 2 or 3 year deal? They are 125 and 195 dollars more, respectivly. I can't decide. Thanks in advance.

I'd say to go with a two year warranty, as you'll probably end up keeping the computer for that long. If you think you'll have it for more than two years, go with the longer one.
Warranties are always good, as the last thing you want is to shell out cash to replace a part that you could have gotten fixed for free. (Imagine if a harddrive goes bad, that's around a hundred bucks. You just earned back most of the warranty money). |
is it a software warranty or hardware warranty?
i really dont think it's worth it to get software warranty (especially when you got the tfp!). and as Pragma said, go with 2 years for hardware support cuz most of the failures happen in that time. |
It's a full computer (everything) warranty, and they sell you upgrades for half off in the warranty time period.

I sell PCs with 2 year warrantys. I used to do 3 but its hard to get some parts after 3 years .... you try finding a slot CPU!!
Upgrade to the two year one... its worth it. |
i wouldn't
i'd use that extra $$ for upgrades.

warrenties are a rip, if you profited do you think they would offer them, they are commming out better thats why they sell them, to maek money. i would save my money

don't bother with warranty for a desktop. They are pretty damd sturdy, and you can usually replace whatever blows out pretty cheap. (I can't think of any component that will be worth more that $100 in two years)
On the other hand get all the warranty you can for laptops. They drop like flys, its quite a bit harder to service them yourself, and the components can be prohibitively expensive |
I think the episode of the simpsons called H.O.M.R. (might be diff ep ) shows it best when hes got that crayon up his nose and moe shoves it back in ;)
I get them sometimes, others not, ritz camera seemed to have a good deal on theirs , i could run the camera over with the car, and so long as i brought in a part with the serial number on it, they'd give me a new one, of course i never got to try it, and my camera died a week after the extended warranty ran out :) i thought best buys warranty was good, but ive seen a lot of people rag on it, don't know why, i got it on my hp laptop, for the first year it basically seems instead of overnite to hp and back , its going to be two weeks to get it repaired, if needed. Insurance is a gamble, the house always wins they say. |
sometimes warranties are a good thing. i build all my own computers so i just have to deal with the manufactuers warranty mostly. but on laptops and stuff like that yeah get the warranty.
when i bought my xbox when it first came out, they had the extended 2 year warranty for $50. i thought hmmmm.... microsoft product... sure i'll take the warranty. well my warranty was to expire this november and about a month ago, it starts randomly locking up and not reading discs. plus the third controller port died. and i take immaculate care of all my electronics, they're my babies. lol so i take it into eb games and they give me a new one. and offer me the same warranty to purchase, sure why not, and this time it was only $22 since when i bought the xbox it was $300 and now the price was $200. not a bad deal. so yeah, sometimes warranties are good investments. as in this.... http://tfproject.org/tfp/showthread....threadid=22592 my latest warranty experience.. :D |
