Virus (?)
Fairly sure I have a virus. Running Windows 2000 Pro.
Left Kazaa on all night downloading episode, fairly sure that's when I got it, though may have been some other time, though I don't usually fall for stupid email attachment viruses. It has updated my registry, made some programs unusable. Upon starting up, 'svchost.exe' and 'omgtray.exe' will not run. I can go to certain websites, but not others-including my bank website, and hotmail. I went to symantec, and tried to use the virus scan, but the link will not work, and when I copied the address and went there, it will either give me a blank 'done' screen. Any suggestions, before I reformat?

Do you have an emergency virus recovery disk?
If not, try to find a fix using another uninfected computer. That's what I'm doing even as I type. (bastard Blaster worm!!! *shakes fist*)

its a worm that travels through certain ports, you dont even have to open any site, thats why it is spreading like wildfire.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com...oval.tool.html there is a fix. Use it, then update your windows all the way, there should be a patch preventing it from coming back. I got hit with it, and it was making my computer have some error every time i get on the interenet. But that fix there fixed it good. Do it soon too, the worm is supposed to be "activated" on Saturday, it will send Ddos attacks or something.

i have exactly the same problem. Patches and fixes and removal tools only produce errors or can't find. No cut & paste, etc. Anti-virus can't find. I sound like a broken record.
In any case I'm sick of fuckin' with it. I'm backin' shit up, then gonna swipe it clean and start over. |
