Hard Drive Performance?
Hey guys, I hope this hasn't been asked before. I searched and didn't find a thread on it.
I need to get a few benchmarks from you folks to compare to mine so I know I'm getting the speed I should. I'm running a RAID 0 (striping) array and I think my hard drive benchmarks are a bit low for that. I only score about 1000 in the HD bench. If any of you have benchmarked with PCMark2002, could you tell me your hard drive set up and benchmark score, so I can compare? Thanks in advance. |
what size strip did you use, block size, what sort of controller are you using, is it a software setup or a hardware one, what speed are the drives, what size are the drives, which OS, what mode are the drive controllers running in ?

It's a High Point hardware RAID controller on an Abit motherboard.
Windows XP Pro 2 IBM 7200 40 gig hard drives Athlon XP 1900 Processor The block size is 64K I didn't bother listing all that because I simply wanted to know peoples score along with what HD they run with or without RAID. However, I guess throwing up some specs couldn't hurt either. ;) |
you mentioned your scores being low, its hard to compare if you don't know what to compare it too
incidently i recall seeing this and dug it up http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/sto...cmark2002.html |
The best site that i know of that can help you is http://www.storagereview.com They will probably have the best info about hd performance. The have a database here http://www.storagereview.com/comparison.html that can help you see what specific drives have scored in test x.
Hope this helps. |
Thanks guys. I'm checking those links right now.
[edit]Wow, I'm glad I didn't pay much for my RAID array. I would have been better off buying a HD with an 8 meg buffer. Oh well. Live and learn I guess. Thanks for that link. It was worth the read. [/edit] |

You should have used hard drives with the 8mb buffer in your RAID array :D |
