At this point, ATI has the higher performing video cards, and they also have better AA algorithms.

The NVidias have a slight performance edge on the ATI's, but ATI has better image quality.

It's hard to give recommendations of we don't know what your price range is.

dj_simo 08-09-2003 12:32 PM

under 500 is what im looking for - but the cheapest possible is what im lookin for sixate

YaWhateva 08-09-2003 01:24 PM

ATI Radeon 9800 or 9800 PRO. If you can get a quality 9800 non pro you can overclock it a lot and its $100 cheaper than a pro.

Jebus99 08-09-2003 01:54 PM

I have a 9800pro and it's... ok lol, i have trouble with my fps in CS, which is the game that takes up most of my gaming time, so I don't know how highly I can recommend it

YaWhateva 08-09-2003 06:10 PM

WHAT??? What are the specs on the rest of your computer? I can run UT2K3 with everything full, at 1600x1200 resulotion and get around 75-90 frames a second no problem and i have a 9800 non pro. Sure sounds like the rest of your computer is completely bottlenecking your 9800. You can run CS just fine with a Geforce 2 MX and a 500 MHz processor for crying out loud.

dj_simo 08-09-2003 06:22 PM

YaWhateva is right - CS shouldnt kill your PC - unless ur running with like 32mbs or memory

get an ATi card. and i dont know what youre doing to make a 9800 pro run cs badly...

Tickford 08-10-2003 03:28 AM

I dont know what they sell for in the US, but I just put a Asus FX5900 Ultra in my mates PC. OMG, what a awesome card. And It runs on the same driver as my GeForce DDR. Way cool, and only way to go....

PCI? (do they even still make those?)

zizdog69 08-10-2003 04:31 AM

I just bought a Radeon 7500 128mb card from Pricewatch and I like it. I had a Matrox 32mb G400 and it beats the living hell out of it. I think I did ok for under $100.

RelaX 08-10-2003 05:18 AM

My NVidia GeForce 4 MX440 is amazing, good price to quality ratio. Unless you're a hardcore gamer I would recommend it.

Wyodiver33 08-10-2003 09:36 AM

ATI Radeon 9500 Pro. Best card I've ever had. 9600 Pro is good, too, but a little slower.

GlassHouse420 08-10-2003 09:45 AM

get a radeon 9800pro 128mb...

tronims 08-10-2003 10:03 PM

I am loving my Radeon 9800 NP 128 mb that I got for $248.

dj_simo 08-11-2003 02:29 AM

i went out and got a 9600 128 for 169$ - it was worth the money - thanks guys for your input!
