Mp3 player Or MiniDisk Player
 

Ok well im still debating whether to buy an MP3 player or a MiniDisk player I have been reading reviews online and people are saying to go with the MiniDisk holds alot more music and media is very inexpensive but I would like to hear your comments. Im thinking of getting The SONY High Speed Net MD Walkman for $149.00 I think its a real good price.

If price is the main issue, I'd recommend a CD mp3 player. You'll pay less initially and CDs are cheaper than Minidiscs.

Price is not really an issue i just wanna be able to store alot of music so thats why im thinking of going for an MD I know that when the MD's barely came out it was a disaster but now its starting to get popular so Ive heard.

Does a MD hold more MP3's than a 30 gig iPod. Fuck no. I think you can get about 5 hours of music on a MD, but that's nothing compared to 30 gigs of storage. Plus, iPods look great too.

iPod > anything on the market.

If an iPod isn't in your price range then what you're looking at isn't a bad choice. I just don't see the point of MD players.

depends on what kinda mp3 player you are talking about.

there are mp3 players that hold music in cards (like compactflash cards) and can accomodate music for the limit of the card and can be re-written to as many times. i have one of these and the trasfer speed is lightning fast.

there are ones with storage on the player itself and usually has a very huge amount of storage. i suggest you get this one.

I like my Sony Net MD player, it has 'infinite' storage, just not all at the same time :) battery life is phenomenal too, and i have an MD player in the car, and the house. Plus its got a number of different codecs, has an FM tuner, weather reports etc.

I wonder about the life of the iPod, hard disks seem to start dying after a year or so of heavy use their MTBF ratings support this.. Though i guess disks replacement HD's are fairly cheap.

Each MD might only have 5 hours, but they are small and light, easy to carry around. I tend to listen to the same songs a lot, and its easy to switch moods or for people to borrow it.

I would go for a 20 Gig Nomad Zen mp3 player but thats just me. They look hella cool and arent very expensive.

I have owned many mp3 players from the ones that use smart media cards to hard drive mp3 players but have never owned a md player. From my experience I would say that the hard drive mp3 players like the ipod just rock. You have enough music on you to last a day and enough space to pack in a large variety of music so you dont get bored. Plus the interface is easy to use and find the music you want to listen to. Organize playlist before and use those ore make one on the go with the ipod.

I can't believe that you're even considering a mini-disc player over an mp3 player. It just doesn't compute.

One thing to consider is quality. Mp3s have worse quality due to compression than a minidisc player. The mp3/cd player suggested might be a good way to go. You get quality and quantity when you want it.

If you can afford it, an HDD mp3 player (like the ipod) since you can fit your whole music collection on it and thats all you have to carry around, no extra disks. Although they are expensive and battery life is better on md's. MD's have also been improved with MDLP, however, if you've got the cash, i'd go with an HDD mp3 player.

I went back & forth on this last fall and decided to go with the mp3 cd player mainly because of value for the buck. For around $100 back then I got a Rio Volt and I can burn 10 hours on a disk and if I fuck it up I just burn another. Plus they play regular cds too! At the time the extra memory for mp3 players was going for over $100.

Like charliex I also love my Sony NetMD, I've stored most of my cd's now on my laptop using their software (so I can listen to music while at work) plus I've made stacks of different disks (which are small, light and easy to toss around) for when I'm driving, at the gym etc. As I don't download a lot of MP3's the minidisc really works well for me.

I've got a minidisc player (and a dual unit minidisc/CD player that does high-speed transfers) and an ipod. The minidiscs haven't seen the sun in about 2 years. I'd sell you my minidisc player for cheap... if I even knew where it was.

I have an Archos Jukebox 20 recorder/mp3 player
It fits my needs, though I didn't get it for music.
It will hold 500 CD's or roughly 330 hours of whatever, PLUS
it is a recorder and will play in car or on your home stereo. It has
20G HD and w/Rockbox firmware...hard to beat

It ain't PURTY like an iPod but way cheaper and unless you are
some kind of A U D I O P H I L E it sounds great.

Smaller than an iPod, more capacity for the price, better feature set. Its a great little player.
