Internet Explorer Conundrum
I tried downloading Internet Explorer from Microsoft's web site. It seems to download a small file to set up the download (ie6setup). When I try to run setup, I am told that I have a newer version of Internet Explorer on my computer. I tried searching for Internet Explorer and can't find it. Any ideas?
I am using Windows XP with a Pentium 4 (1.7 Ghz.) 512 MB of RAM, 240 GB of storage, and using DSL for my internet connection. |

Look for a program called "IE.exe" in your windows folder. That would be Internet Explorer if I have it right.
As for the setup program - it is a net installer (especially if it is less than a meg big). It will scan your system and see what additional components are needed to download so it can get Internet Explorer together. Aside from that, why wouldn't you have Internet Explorer on your computer? It is extremely hard to get rid of in the first place. And all versions of Windows (post 95) ship with it.

Open your start menu. It should be at the top of the list. I think it's impossible not to have Internet Explorer on Windows. If you open up any folder you can type in an address and get on the net if you're already connected. Internet Explorer is basically what opens every folder/directory on your machine.

To uninstall internet explorer 6 is very complicated
"control panel" "add remove programs" 'windows components" "unclick internet explorer" That will remove it as much as it can be. its a little trickier on previous os's http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=293907 However you want this one instead , if you are doing an attempted repair http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;q318378 |

I don't have Internet Explorer because my ISP assured me that there were fewer issues with Netscape and the technician at the ISP did some magic which removed it. I now find that I need it for a project and can't reload it. I tried searching for IE.exe and can't find it. Thanks for all your help.

Second link i gave you will re-add it.
the filename is iexplorer.exe anyway, so thats why you dont see it. Also try just going into the add remove software , windows components and see if ie is not clicked, if not click it and should try to reinstall it, if it fails, again go to that 2nd link and change your registry as it says. |
