Your first IRC or Chat Experience?
Well,
I'm interested in how the population in TFP reacted. Was it good or was it bad? For me I was lucky enough to have a friendly audience in my first IRS and they ripped me apart (my fault presumely). To the point that I will be very cautious(sp) before I join another chat room (probably a good thing). how was yours? Were you savvy enough, or did it take time to be accepted? For example I basically got told to Fuck Off or Go home cause no one understood me, but I could'nt keep up and my typing is shite.. (All My Fault, I know), or I had to do a triple shift. All things I had control of, of course. I should have done better.. The only thing I can say is thanks to the TFP I haven't embarresed myself !

First time in chat was when Hal asked me to join. The purpose was to tell me I was a mod. It took me between 15-20 minutes to realize that he was sending a priv to tell me about becoming a mod. I had no clue what the hell I was doing.

Started with AOL when it first came out.. then to BBS's and played on MUD's.. and then to IRC where I met, hung out, and had awesome meories with some groovy cats .. then after a while the group of IRC people I hung out with started to go way down hill.. so I just do the TFP thing as far as IRC is concerned.
AOL was not the best place to meet people... some very scary people on there. But also some decent people too.. but the few I met from AOL were creepy or psycho. Just my luck I guess... prolly cuz I was pre-HS when I began using it. heh

oh man. first time i got on was to talk about selling my old iMac to someone... I didn't understand what all these settings were, and i didn't know how to make a seperate window to priv with someone, and kept forgetting /msg at the front. It was a mess. i vowed then and there never to get on another IRC channel again! (I broke that particular vow, and can now be found in our channel most always. )

I had no idea what I was doing when I went into TFP chat for the first time.
I had watched my kiddos chat but never did it myself. Everybody was very nice considering how inept I was, since I had been on the board for so long it was old home week. |

haha first time I ever used IRC was to DL some porn in a room called #sexystuff on undernet. I have to admit it was a cool place, and I ended up spending lots of time in there just chatting rather than DL porn. I used to label AOL and Yahoo Chat junkies and think it was moronic but I guess posting on forums and things of that nature make me no better. I still make fun of AOL users but thats not because of chat rooms, its because they are AOL users

My first chat experience was on a client called 'Palace' - I think it would have been around '96 or '97. Palace was cool, because it had graphics and you could move around the place and have custom avatars. It was a good experience, because I landed in a chat portal that was full of n00bs, so I didn't stand out. Nowadays I'm an IRC veteran (though not at the tfp chan), jeez, you can't keep me off it.

The first time i joined an irc network was about 1997. a friend of mine told me to. i was completely lost, mostly because i'd never used the software before, nor had i much of a concept of what irc was.
i think it's safe to say that aside from reboots and formats i've been connected to at least four networks at any given time since then the tfp channel is a good one, although i'm not the most active user in there, it's definitley a place to be. there are so many losers on the internet, and there are so many horrible chat room that when you find a good one, it's something to hold onto. |
