Both of them running XP? (Home or Professional?)

What's the network topology look like? (Internet -> Cable Modem -> Router -> Switch -> Computers?)

Any more info?

what i like to do w/ my Winxp pro is to use the remote desktop when I am on my network.

start > programs > accessories > communications > remote desktop

that way you can just view the other desktop that way... as far as the folders sharing..

go to "my network places" then right click and go to properties on your Local area connection and make sure that "file and printer sharing" is enabled.

Check that they are members of the same workgroup.

right-click on My Computer > properties > computer name > change

What's your IP addresses on both PC's? Have you set one of them to get its address provided by your internet provider through their DHCP? Sharing internet to the other PC?

Is it cable > PC1 > hub > PC2 ?

For me it is easier with cable > router > both PC

With a router, the router has the single IP from the provider and you set 2 local IP's on the PC's like 192.168.0.101 and 192.168.0.102 or something. A hub has no IP.
But I have DSL and maybe it works differently with cable...
Just that the IP's are important too to get all to work.

More info please! :-)

if its a hub on cable you might not be able to browse for it so jsut use ipconfig and find one pc's ip and the on the other pc open explorer and type \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ( x's = your ip) and then it should prompt for username / pass and then you should be connected// if youhave no folders visable you shouled be able to acess hidden shares of c$ by entering \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\c$
