I'm making this same post on both the Windows and Linux threads because it can pertain to both. Also, it's actually an extension to a program rather than a program itself, but it's SO excellent that I just have to share it with people and these two threads seemed like the most appropriate places.
Anyways, it's called AdBlock and it's an extension to Mozilla and/or Firebird. It can be downloaded from http://adblock.mozdev.org Basically, it makes it REALLY easy to block banner ads and other advertising images from websites as you browse them and it just recently had functionality added to block flash advertisements in pages too If you use Mozilla or Firebird, I HIGHLY suggest you check this out!

Lots of awesome freeware. I go there almost any time I need a new Windows app. Great site. Ill have to vote for WinBar. Its a pretty good piece of monitoring software. I have had some games not like to run while it is running, but other than that, its great. I also vote for RegCleaner and Firebird. A great way to clean your registry and the best browser out there.

Most of my faves have been mentioned already but there are a couple i'd like to add:
Wingrep - Good windows version of grep with a well thought out GUI XnView - I downloaded this one yesterday because my friend wanted a freeware image file cropper + converter and didnt have much space on her computer. It works quite nicely and has lots of techy image conversion options and supports a lot of formats including GIF and JPEG Of course, i'm using Firefox at the moment so i have to mention that its my preferred browser. Some people need to give it some patience where the memory footprint and other "issues" are concerned, because lets face it, it hasnt even reached version 1.0 yet and it rocks. Plus, being a web dev guy, i like the fact that it implements more CSS standards than IE

Winrar mIRC Winamp 5 Office (the newest available) Adobe photoshop Acrobat illustrator Gaim Desktop Sidebar Maxthon (browser) Irfanview alcohol*120% I try to keep pretty light on my apps, I hate processes running SiN and the others with Deamon tools... Try alcohol*120% for your virtual CD-ROM drive. It creates images reads images and will mount the virual CD-ROM drive and load images. I love it and have never ever run into a single problem with it. Very highly recommended.
