Ah, one that I've used for awhile and never put in here:

Treesize Professional

Quote:
TreeSize Professional is a powerful and flexible harddisk space manager for Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000/XP. Find out which folders are the largest on your drives and recover megabytes on it. TreeSize Professional shows you the size, allocated and wasted space, the number of files, 3D bar and pie charts, the last access date, the file owner, the NTFS compression rate and much more information for several folders or drives you choose. It also lets you search for old, big and temporary files. The application has an intuitive Explorer-like user interface and it is fast and multithreaded. You can print detailed reports or export the collected Data to Excel and to an HTML or ASCII file. TreeSize Pro can be started from the context menu of every folder or drive.

I'm making this same post on both the Windows and Linux threads because it can pertain to both. Also, it's actually an extension to a program rather than a program itself, but it's SO excellent that I just have to share it with people and these two threads seemed like the most appropriate places.

Anyways, it's called AdBlock and it's an extension to Mozilla and/or Firebird. It can be downloaded from http://adblock.mozdev.org

Basically, it makes it REALLY easy to block banner ads and other advertising images from websites as you browse them and it just recently had functionality added to block flash advertisements in pages too

If you use Mozilla or Firebird, I HIGHLY suggest you check this out!

Lots of awesome freeware. I go there almost any time I need a new Windows app. Great site.

Ill have to vote for WinBar. Its a pretty good piece of monitoring software. I have had some games not like to run while it is running, but other than that, its great.

I also vote for RegCleaner and Firebird. A great way to clean your registry and the best browser out there.

Most of my faves have been mentioned already but there are a couple i'd like to add:

Wingrep - Good windows version of grep with a well thought out GUI
XnView - I downloaded this one yesterday because my friend wanted a freeware image file cropper + converter and didnt have much space on her computer. It works quite nicely and has lots of techy image conversion options and supports a lot of formats including GIF and JPEG

Of course, i'm using Firefox at the moment so i have to mention that its my preferred browser. Some people need to give it some patience where the memory footprint and other "issues" are concerned, because lets face it, it hasnt even reached version 1.0 yet and it rocks. Plus, being a web dev guy, i like the fact that it implements more CSS standards than IE

Man did I miss a few things. First of all. Bittorrent (the initial program that most people use) sucks ass. BT++, unimaginably, sucks even worse (mostly because it's a system bloat). A revised list, if you will, of every single program that I would download for Windows after a fresh install.
3dMark2001
3dMark2003
AdAware SE
AC3Filter
Alcohol120
Azureus
CPU-Z
Divx
Direct X 9.0C

FireFox

Media Player Classic (replaces Real One)
Java (from Sun not MS JVM)
Nero
Nimo Codecs
PC Mark 04
Real Alternative (also used to replace Real One)
Smart FTP
Spybot
Spyware Blaster
TCPOptimizer (changes some Windows default internet settings to "optimize" bandwith usage)
TightVNC
TMPEG (avi to mpeg converter)
VirtualDub
Vobsub
Winamp 5
Winzip 9
WinRAR
Xvid

That's my list

I can't believe more people haven't referred to Proxomitron [www.proxomitron.info].

This has simply got to be the best single utility available.

SiN and the others with Deamon tools... Try alcohol*120% for your virtual CD-ROM drive. It creates images reads images and will mount the virual CD-ROM drive and load images. I love it and have never ever run into a single problem with it. Very highly recommended.
