Converting movies to SVCD's

I have an mpeg that i want to turn into an svcd so i can play it in a dvd player. I have no idea how to do this. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I would prefer it if i wouldnt have to buy any software. Thanks in advance.

www.vcdhelp.com

all the info you need.

here's my info:

you will need to make sure that it is in mpeg 1 format. if not, u will need to convert. use a program like TMPGenc (i think that's what it's called. u can download it from vcdhelp.com for free). after that, u will need a cd burning program that is capable of burning vcd's (it should ask u what kinda cd u need to make (like audio or data) and it should list vcd as an option). i had winoncd and now nero and both are capable of burning vcd's.

anyway, www.vcdhelp.com for all your needs.

Yeah, I agree with The_Dude ... www.vcdhelp.com is a great resource for learning everything about video codecs and editing. Another thing you could possibly do is use Nero - just drag and drop the mpeg into the SVCD window (after creating a new SVCD) and it should create the SVCD for you on the fly.

that is only if you purchased the upgrade thing that allows MPEG-2 support. Easier to do it with TMPEG-Enc but there is a trial period for their MPEG-2 support as well.

If you're wanting an SVCD you'll want mpeg 2 - not mpeg 1. If you start from an mpeg 1 source you may as well make a VCD.

You're right I think. Sorry about that! I probably got that so long ago I forgot about it.

It probably depends on the bitrate of the original mpeg as well. A CBR mpeg1 at 3000kb/s deserves an SVCD, < 1500, most likely you wont find much benefit over SVCD.
