AMD XP 2700+
 

I recently installed an AMD XP 2700+ on an ASUS A7N8x Deluxe mobo, and the problem is that my computer recognizes it as a 1500+, so I wonder if I'm being cheated out of almost half of my processor power, and if so, what can I do? Thanks.

I have no experience with this particiular motherboard but you may need to increase the FSB to 166 (I think the 2700+ uses that). The multiplier should be set to 13x.

hmm weird- try updating the firmware on your mobo?

Most likely you have the correct processor. All you have to do is change the FSB to the correct speed.

My motherboard (Abit KR7A), by default, considers my processor to be a 1500+ (the first AthlonXP chip, I believe). From there, I have to set it to the correct CPU. Just go into your BIOS and see if there's a list of CPUs so that you can select the one you have.

If so, set it. Otherwise, check (as said above) the FSB multiplier to make sure that's set properly.

Yeah i have the same mobo and a 2500 and it did close to the same problem, yeah all you have to do is raise it to 166 and 13 like someone else said. Of course if your ram can handle it 200 fsb is quite nice and is what i have mine set at, and its not even a rev 2 and runs perfectly.

yep, its the fsb... same exact thing happened to me, i wrote newegg and asked if they shipped the wrong one, they told me to change the fsb. I also recommend 200, first step in the o/c process ;-)

Ditto on what's been said. Go into the Bios|Advanced|Advance Chipset Features and change the CPU External Frequency change it.
