*begs for help setting up his new P4*

I have a brand new Pentium 4 Northwood (2.4ghz, HT enabled)

When I turn it on for the very first time (After a CMOS reset) it reads:

"CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded
Warning! CPU has been changed.
Please re-enter CPU settings in the CMOS setup and remember to save before quit!"

that's my MB

I can't get into Windows, if I try it flashes the "must shut down to prevent irreperable damage" message for less than a second and resets.

edit: I'm running WinXP Pro SP2, my boot HD is 40, I have an 80 for storage, plus a DVD drive and a CD burner (all IDE)

Ok, first off go into your BIOS and manually load the default settings. That'll get rid of the first error.

As for the second one, is this a Windows error or a BIOS error?

And is this a rebuild off an old computer? Because if it is, you're going to have to reinstall Windows.

Also if your the one who put the system together check the temps of the CPU, make sure its not overheating.
