Where do you folks buy components?

I'm lookin for a 2ghz+ P4 w/ MB (gotta be 8x AGP, 800mhz FSB) and the best deal I've found so far is a 2.4ghz for about $245.

Any tips?

www.pricewatch.com

At quick glance, I see "Motherboard Combos Pentium 4 2.0GHz with cpu, fan" for $189

epracmetcon 07-24-2003 11:39 PM

Id just go to newegg.com they have relativly low pricing and have a large selection, some of those places that you see advertising really cheap end up jacking up the shipping costs.

Edvard_Grieg 07-25-2003 12:00 AM

Generally newegg since they have phenomenal service, however, I will usually check pricewatch to see if there is a significant price difference. If you use pricewatch be sure to cross-reference with resellerratings.com so that you don't get hosed.

Boner 07-25-2003 12:28 AM

NewEgg.com, Buy.com, Amazon.com, maybe GoogleGear.com, in that order.

Occasionally I check pricewatch.com, but follow up with ResellerRatings.com to make sure that I won't get ripped off.

Pennington 07-25-2003 03:33 AM

Googlegear, newegg, cheapest listed on pricewatch, in that order. I've had great experiance with Googlegear and newegg but overall googlegear is much easier to navigate and tend to be cheaper. The cheapest thing listed on pricewatch or pricegrabber usually tend to ship late or not at all and sometimes will ship wrong parts. Only use them if they are much cheaper.

cougr 07-25-2003 04:39 AM

i also have to say that ive had an awesome time dealing with googlegear, and they seem to be a few bucks cheaper than anyone else

zwik 07-25-2003 05:19 AM

I used to use newegg, until I got a few parts that were either refurbed or used that I ordered new. Since then I've been using mwave.com, their about the same as newegg.

Mak 07-25-2003 09:41 AM

definitely newegg.com

micah67 07-25-2003 11:16 AM

Another vote for mwave. I've placed dozens of orders with them and have been very happy with their prices and the return procedure.

The_Dude 07-25-2003 11:45 AM

pricewatch and newegg

Caphreak 07-25-2003 02:07 PM

newegg > all, awesome RMA policy and super fast shipping

oh yeah 07-25-2003 03:09 PM

I use newegg also. They have really good prices and are good about letting you return products.

peokuk 07-25-2003 05:34 PM

newegg, tccomputers, googlegear... although tccomputers isn't as good as it used to be...

mrquackers 07-25-2003 05:40 PM

tigerdirect.com has good prices.

gibz0r 07-25-2003 05:49 PM

Newegg.com is by far the best company I have bought stuff from over the years

heyal256 07-25-2003 07:15 PM

I usually order stuff from newegg.com. I have also ordered from directron.com and compgeeks.com because they have good deals available (directron is good for power supplies, compgeeks is good for some harder to find items too).

tronims 07-25-2003 08:55 PM

only places i have ordered from right now are newegg and diretron but just placed an order to allstarshop.com for a vid card, still waiting to see how that turns out. but the basic plan for me is as others have said pricewatch then resellerratings.com.

jmad 07-25-2003 11:20 PM

I have no personal experience, but my friend built a computer from the ground up from components only from newegg.com. He was happy with the end result

Kllr Wolf 07-26-2003 08:54 AM

I usually get form newegg, but ocassionaly I will buy from Mwave.

Tecelote 07-26-2003 10:24 AM

infotechnow.com is where I buy alot of my stuff for custom built systems but that's only becuase I'm about 20 min from the brick and mortar store. newegg, pricewatch and googlegear are probably better if you're wanting to do online purchases, though.

Rinndalir 07-26-2003 10:40 AM

Newegg is the best!

tinfoil 07-26-2003 11:19 AM

I always, ALWAYS, by local. It costs a little more, but if there is a problem with a component, I just have a 5 minute drive to grab another one.

cliffxpro 07-26-2003 12:24 PM

If you, or someone you know, has a TAX ID Number, go wholesale. ASI (google for them) has offices around the country, and super low wholesale prices. I buy most of my components from them, and always go to Pricewatch if I have to buy retail.

07-26-2003 07:39 PM

www.newegg.com

(Most of the time.)

I buy memory from crucial.com exclusively. Never had a problem with them and the product is quality.

mustang91 07-26-2003 09:43 PM

2.4ghz C processer from Newegg $178
MSI Neo2-LS from Newegg $103

Spend the $285 for the combo, you won't be disapointed.

yaycr 07-27-2003 02:46 AM

mushkin.com - ram
newegg.com - cpu,mobo,etc
mwave.com - cpu,mobo,etc
bestbyte.net - assorted shit
directron.com

egorey 07-27-2003 08:12 PM

Newegg.com and Googlegear.com get my votes.

Have heard good things about Directron.com and Mwave.com as well (just can't forget those terrible mwave modem/sound cards from IBM a few years back...)

crafty 07-27-2003 08:39 PM

www.pricewatch.com

Through a link there 8 months ago I got my P4 2.8 ghz with a gig of DDR ram, GF4 ti4200 128mb, nice soundblaster card, lovely speakers, and a 19" monitor for just shy of $1400.. I know i could get it a bit cheaper building it myself, but I'm way too lazy for that, never done it before and don't want to start now.

Oh yeah, it also has a L337 thermal temperature display.

madsenj37 08-08-2003 12:16 AM

pricewatch.com
pricegrabber.com
mysimon.com
ebay.com
auctions.yahoo.com
compusa (the store)

Flippy 08-08-2003 12:50 AM

I usually buy stuff locally, as there are several local places with comparable prices to online stores. If you're not as lucky as me though, I'd recommend newegg or ebay. The pricewatch sites are pretty good as well

irieemon 08-08-2003 06:04 AM

1 vote for newegg.com -

although after these responses, I need to try googlegear.com

mute76 08-08-2003 08:30 AM

Seems most people here are picking newegg.com. I'm here just to agree with that :)

They are the best.

floonine 08-08-2003 12:15 PM

I love googlegear. THE END
