Man, I'm glad I looked through this forum a bit. I was still running Ad-aware build 162, and it wasn't working like I wanted it to. My Internet Explorer was running deathly slow, especially on forums and pages with a lot of pictures. I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I had tried running Ad-aware, virus scans, defragmenting.... everything. I was constantly checking for ad-aware updates through the program, but it didn't tell me about new builds, I guess. I updated to Ad-Aware 181 and it's running smooth again. Thanks!

and to add to all, if you are on a non-firewalled broadband connection, do you have Windows Messenger Service running on your machine (assuming it's a Win box)?

Ad-Aware is great, but to get everything, run Spybot Search and Destroy after AdAware. Those two will gut your system and get everything I've ever seen.

get mozilla or netscape or one of their derivatives. Pop-up blocking is built in.

just a note, make sure your AD-aware is updated. i just updated AFTER a scan that found 15 objects. ran it after the update and found 170 objets on top of that.

A new popup blocker that is absolutely free, Secretmaker 3.5.5.

Pretty cool freeware that is small in size, but very effective.

I hate the ones that are integrated as a browser toolbar so I use this.

If you're running WinXP, service pack 2 gives Internet Explorer a built-in popup blocker. It actually works pretty well too.

Sorry for answering your question by just saying switch, but it seems you've already got a handle on the alternatives and, likely enough, they're not working.
I'd have to agree. They're much superior browsers anyways.
